There is a Balm in Gilead
featuring Jonathan Woody, bass-baritone

Bass-baritone Jonathan Woody is a sought-after performer of early and new music in New York and across North America and has performed with the Spire Chamber Ensemble since season two. We invite you to join this epic journey through the American songbook, featuring traditional and new hymnody, concert music by composers such as R. Nathaniel Dett, Adolphus Hailstork, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, plus rousing spirituals. Our commissioned poet will explore both text and sonority through readings of poetry between musical selections. Do not miss this opportunity to hear Jonathan’s voice hailed as “charismatic” and “riveting” by the New York Times.
